This project, designed to “Engage youth in contributing to peace and stability in Jonglei and Eastern Equatoria” is working to consolidate community peace agreements – with a focus on supporting governance at ethnic borders. RYP and its partners are also increasing involvement of marginalized, disarmed youth in multiethnic and inter-commu
nal recovery projects.
RYP works with local partners and contractors to complete its construction projects. RYP has also funded six grants in Eastern Equatoria, which represent a wide range of strategies for improving the transport infrastructure and at devloping livlihood options for youth.
Building Roads, Bridging Divides
RYP works with local partners and contractors to complete its construction projects. RYP also funded six grants in Eastern Equatoria, which represent a wide range of strategies for improving the transport infrastructure and at the same time, training and employing youth.
Pact and its local partners brought in culvert molds, and trained construction workers how to use them in construction projects. These molds will be a viable local industry and will contribute to the national infrastructure. Pact's RYP initiatives helped local organizations to establish proper businesses that empower and employ youth and provide culverts to a region where road construction is crucial. Road construction in Eastern Equatoria is aligned closely with peace and conflict reduction—by improving government vehicle access to chronically insecure areas. Road construction projects also provide access to productive trade markets, in hopes of promoting peace by encouraging trade.
